Our Lab
The Lab "Responses to DNA Lesions" occupies the Northeast wing of the top floor of the city's tallest 15-storey building. Truly the top Mainz lab by location, we are striving to deserve this title also by the quality of work and scientific excellence. The fundamental precepts ("pillars") of our group are:
  • Scientific integrity and good laboratory practice
  • Trustworthiness, loyalty and dedication of all group members to the team
  • Joy from working in the field we love
We conduct research in the field of genetic toxicology, with a strong emphasis on biological endpoints of specific DNA lesions. As a tool, we use synthetic DNA modifications which correspond to DNA damage generated by toxicants of chemical or physical nature (such as pharmaceutical drugs, food and environmental contaminants and various kinds of irradiation). The aim is to identify the biological mechanism by which such DNA lesions lead to disease as well as genetic risk factors for the potentially affected individuals.
