Public transportation from Frankfurt Airport to the University of Mainz

In order to use the automatic ticket vending machines, you need either small bills (5 EUR or 10 Eur, respectively) or coins (0,10 EUR, 0,20 EUR, 0,50 EUR, 1 EUR, 2 EUR).
Take stairs or elevator to the underground floor of the airport. Follow the signs to the train (S-Bahn). Close to the stairs that lead to the train tracks there are several blue ticket vending machines. For a ticket to Mainz type the code number 65, then press the button next to the red field "Einzelfahrt", then type in "1" (for direct route), and then pay the amount shown (the machines return change).
It is illegal to enter an "S-Bahn" without such tickets (if the conductor finds you he can charge you 30 EUR for travelling without ticket)

As Frankfurt airport got 2 railway stations now, trains to Mainz Hbf. either leave from the regional (local) station or from the long distance station at the AirRail terminal. The S-Bahn S8, RE trains and RB trains leave from the regional station.
Non-stop trains (IC-/EC- or ICE-trains leave from the long-distance station (track 6 and 7). Tickets can be bought at "DB" vending machines, counters and the travel agency (ground floor of the airport).
While these fast trains go to Mainz non-stop, the regional trains have many stops. The stop to get off is Mainz Hbf (=Hauptbahnhof: main railway station), the second stop after crossing the river Rhine (do not get off at "Mainz Süd")

From the railway station Mainz Hbf (=Hauptbahnhof: main railway station) to the Institute of Physics you get with a short and inexpensive taxi ride, or by buses number 54 (destination Lerchenberg/Bruckner Str.), 55 (destination Finthen/Theodor-Heuss-Str.),58 (destination Wackernheim/Rathausplatz), or 68 (destination Klein-Winternheim.). You can buy the bus ticket from the driver (outside the rush our ask for a "Kurzstrecke" ticket which is cheaper then a regular ticket.

Get off at the 3rd stop (Friedrich-v.-Pfeiffer-Weg). From there you cross the bridge over the big road to enter the university campus. From there it is an 8 minute walk to the conference site (see campus map ).
