Though sidelined by a knee injury sustained in game one of the Western Conference Final, Steve Yzerman has been a sparkplug for the Red Wings potent offense in the 1995 Stanley Cup Playoffs. A 12-year Red Wing, "Stevie Y" was drafted fourth overall by Detroit in 1983. He earned selection to the NHL's All-Rookie Team in his first year, finishing with 39 goals and 87 points. By 1988, he was one of the NHL's top scorers, enjoying the first of what would prove to be six consecutive 100-point seasons. He scored 65 goals in 1989-90 and followed up with 62 more the following season. He won the Lester B. Pearson Award as the League's outstanding player as selected by the members of the NHL PLayers' Association. He has played in the NHL All-Star Game on seven occasions.
