The most convenient way to get to Mainz from the abroad is to take a flight to Frankfurt International Airport.

From Frankfurt International Airport to Mainz Hauptbahnhof, shortly Mainz Hbf, the main railway station of Mainz. Upon arriving at the airport, you need to follow the sign Regionalbahnhof, the local train railway station. Please pay attention not to go to Fernbahnhof, the long distance train railway station. Do not forget to buy a ticket from the ticket machine located at the entry to Regionalbahnhof, because in trains tickets are not available. The ticket costs 4,65 Euro. Credit card payments are accepted. Trains to Mainz Hauptbahnhof depart from the track 3. The trip to Mainz takes about 25 minutes. The train timetable can be found here.

Due to large scale road works in Mainz, the public transportation from and to the Hauptbahnhof is quite limited!

From Mainz Hauptbahnhof to City-Boardinghouse. If you are accommodated in the appartment house City-Boaridinghouse, you have to collect the appartment key from the reception of City Hotel Neubrunnenhof, located in Große Bleiche 26 (where you will have your breakfast each morning). We recommend you to take a taxi at the Hauptbahnhof, ask the taxi driver to wait at the hotel, collect your key and then let him drive you to the City-Boardinghouse. Do not forget to ask the taxi driver for the receipt. Please be aware that most taxi drivers in Mainz do not speak english. The taxi stand is at the rare side of the Hauptbahnhof, use the west exit (Ausgang West).

Alternatively, the hotel can be reached from the Hauptbahnhof by a 10 minutes walk (see the way description). When you collected the key for your appartment you have to walk to the City-Boardinghouse. The walk from the hotel to the City-Boardinghouse takes no more than 10-15 minutes and is displayed here.

From Mainz Hauptbahnhof to Hotel Römerstein. If you are accommodated in Hotel Römerstein we recommend you to take a taxi at the Hauptbahnhof. Do not forget to ask the taxi driver for the receipt. Please be aware that most taxi drivers in Mainz do not speak english. The taxi stand is at the rare side of the Hauptbahnhof, use the west exit (Ausgang West).

If you like to walk, the hotel can be reached by a half an hour walk from the Hauptbahnhof. The way is displayed here.

From Mainz Hauptbahnhof to the Guesthouse of the Max-Planck-Institute for Polymer Research. If you are accommodated in the Guesthouse please take a taxi from the Hauptbahnhof to Ackermannweg 10. Do not forget to ask the taxi driver for the receipt. Please be aware that most taxi drivers in Mainz do not speak english. The taxi stand is at the rare side of the Hauptbahnhof, use the west exit (Ausgang West).

The way from your hotel to the Institute of Mathematics and back is described below:

From the City Hotel Neubrunnenhof (breakfast) to the Institute of Mathematics and back. When you get out of the hotel you have to cross the street Große Bleiche, where you will find the bus stop Neubrunnenhof/Römerpassage. Take the bus no.6/direction Marienborn or Bretzenheim and get off at the bus stop Botanischer Garten. Here is the timetable of the bus no.6. Next to the bus stop is an open gate, the entrance to the university campus. From there the walk to the Institute takes no more than 15 minutes. Take the way through the Botanischer Garten and enjoy the walk.

Alternatively you can get off from the bus no.6 at the bus stop Universität. The walk to the Institute of Mathematics is a bit shorter but less beautiful.

Remember that in the evening the Botanischer Garten is closed at 17:45. On the way back you should take Dalheimer Weg to get back to the bus stop Botanischer Garten. There take the bus no. 6/direction Wiesbaden and get off at the bus stop Neubrunnenhof/Römerpassage. From the bus stop walk to the City-Boardinghouse using the same way as in the morning. Alternatively, you can get off from the bus no. 6 at the bus stop "Hauptbahnhof West/Taubertsbergbad" and on the same platform take any bus to Schillerplatz. We will inform you later which buses go from Hauptbahnhof West/Taubertsbergbad to Schillerplatz.

From the Hotel Römerstein to the Institute of Mathematics. The shortest way is displayed here. It is better to take the way through the Botanischer Garten and enjoy the walk. Remember that in the evening the Botanischer Garten is closed at 17:45. You should take Dalheimer Weg to get back to the Hotel.

From the Guesthouse of the Max-Planck-Institute for Polymer Research to the Institute of Mathematics. Cross the car parking, then cross the road Duesbergweg and follow the way between two buildings.

From the Institute of Mathematics to the City. From the bus stop Botanischer Garten take the bus no. 6/direction Wiesbaden and get off from the bus at the bus stop "Hauptbahnhof West/Taubertsbergbad". From there you can walk to the City Center.
