1968 - 1977 Goethe-Gymnasium Frankfurt am Main. A-level Latin; bilingual branch; High-level courses: Biology / English.
From SS 1978 onwards Studies in philosophy, ethnology and theology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt am Main.
SS 1982 M.A. in philosophy. Topic of treatise: "Rationalismus und Mystik". Afterwards I started working on my doctorate as a graduate student, supported by a scholarship of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes.
SS 1985 I graduated and took my Ph.D. from Frankfurt University. Topic of dissertation: "Neuere Beiträge zur Diskussion des Leib-Seele-Problems".
Fall 1985 Teaching assignment on the European Campus of the University of Maryland at Gießen. Course topic: "Contemporary Moral Issues".
SS 1986 - SS 1987 A series of teaching assignments and lectureships at the Department of Philosophy in Frankfurt.

Since 1995 I have been a Board Member of the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness.

In 1998 I was the principal organizer for the second international conference of the ASSC ("Neural Correlates of Consciousness - Empirical and Conceptual Questions"), which took place from June 19 -22 in Bremen, Germany. A book under the same title, which will contain selected publications from the conference, is forthcoming with MIT press.
