Archaeological Research at Haft Tappeh
Deutsch

History of Research

In the sixties during construction work of a street that should lead to the sugar cane plantations a bulldozer hit a vault made of baked bricks. This discovery lead to an investigation of this area by the Iranian Cultural Heritage Organization. In autumn 1965 excavations were started under the leadership of E. Negahban that were continued until 1978 in several campaigns (E. Negahban, 1991). In 2001 a new project was started in Haft Tappeh by the Iranian Cultural Heritage Organization. The archaeological research was carried out by B. Mofidi-Nasrabadi.

In winter 2004 the Iranian Cultural Heritage Organization and the “Institut für Ägyptologie und Altorientalistik” of the University of Mainz signed a memorandum of understanding for further archaeological research in Haft Tappeh. The project is financed by the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft).
