Archaeological Research at Dehno

History of Research

Dehno is known as hill KS 120. M.-J. Steve carried out surveys in Dehno in 1968 and 1970. He documented pottery from different periods and several inscribed bricks (Steve 1987, 11, Nr. 2). Also E. Carter found inscribed bricks at Dehno (Carter 1971, 145).

My own surveys were carried out in 1999 in order to study the pottery material. Thereafter a team of geophysicists of the University of Kiel accompanied my expedition in 2002 which was financed by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. We carried out a geomagnetic prospection on the surface of the hill (Mofidi-Nasrabadi 2010).

The first excavation campaign took place in May 2012 supported by a cooperation between the Iranian Cultural Heritage Organisation and the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz.
